The interactive list allows you to sort and select from the membership list. Hopefully, this will let you find members in your area more easily than with the old static list. There are currently three options available. The interactive list is built with future enhancements in mind, so more sorting and selection options may be added as time goes by. The list is controlled by the set of buttons and drop down boxes near the top of the screen.
Shows all active members sorted by their membership number. Click on the "Go" button next to "All by number" to get the list. The "All by number" list is the default display when you first open the interactive list page.
Shows all active members sorted ascending by country. Within country, the list is sorted ascending by state/province. Within the same country and state/province, the list is then sorted by city. Click on the "Go" button next to "All by country/state" to get the list
Allows you to extract a group of members from the main list based on their country and state/province. First, select a country from the "Only from country" drop-down list. The drop-down list contains only countries in which there are active MRA members. Once you have selected a country, the "state" drop-down list will be populated with all states/provinces in the selected country. Only states/provinces from which we have active members will appear in that list. Pick a state/province, then click the "Go" button next to the "state" drop-down to obtain the list.
There is a special entry in the "state" drop-down box: the top entry is labeled "-- All --". When selected, it stands for all states/provinces of the selected country.
A browser with support for frames and JavaScript (referred to as ECMA Script by Microsoft these days.) Memory requirements are dependent on how your OS and browser handle memory, so it's a bit hard to pin this down. That said, there has been one report of Netscape crashes under Windows 98 with only 40 MB RAM, so for Win 98, the minimum recommended amount of memory is 64 MB.
Some models of the WebTV box do not support sorting lists. Since sorting is one of the fundamentals of the interactive list, this one is a bit of a fatal flaw. I have built in an array sorting algorithm in the interactive list in order to sidestep this problem, but it apparently still does not work. For the time being, please use the static membership list.
Privoxy 3.0 contains an unsolicited pop-up filter that dynamically alters the list's code. Although we do not use pop-ups, the alterations introduce an error in the code and the list is not rendered as the result. To fix this, add the following lines to the user.action file:
{ -filter{unsolicited-popups} }

This is the time your browser needs to actually render the list on screen. The sorting operations themselves take less than a second on a 500 MHz PC
The entire list is downloaded when you first visit the interactive list page. Regardless of what selections you make, there is no need to retrieve more data from the server. On the one hand, this makes for fast operations. On the other hand, as the membership list grows longer, the initial delay needed to download the list may become prohibitive. It would require changes to our current web hosting arrangement to allow partial downloads of the list, so that is something we may have to take a look at in the future.
