I tried the stock pipe fix to make it sing. Then drilled seven 3/8" holes in the 1 1/2" dia pipe that was the new stub. This mellowed it out a lot, but still no big Sportster sound.
I then removed the 1 1/2" pipe stub by grinding it flush with the end cap, trial fitted with 2 aluminum rivets to try it, --bam-- sounds like a 1200 Sportster with slightly modified mufflers: very bassey and not obnoxious.
My bike was jetted with 102 jets and the middle sized needle in the middle slot. Throttle response is great, easy start up, sound just changed a bunch.
