Swiveling side panel

I had removed my seat to check the battery and when I put the seat back on it disloged the right side cover. The next time I went for a ride the cover flew off. Luckily I retrieved it before anyone ran over it but it was scratched up a little. This is a fix for side covers that fall.

You need to buy:

steel leaders
Wire wound steel leaders. I used 12" 30 lb. with a McMahon swivel on one end and a Cross-Lok snap on the other. $1.19

split rings
#4 Stainless split rings. $0.69

snap swivels
#3 Snap swivels. I used black because they were the largest. $0.99

Installation:

remove Cross-Lok
Remove and discard the Cross-Lok

thread wire
Thread the wire leader through the pre-existing holes in the part of the cover that snaps into the grommet on the bike frame.

Then thread the other end of the leader through the loop that once held the Cross-Lok and pull tight.

thread wire
Use the split ring to connect the snap swivel to the McMahon swivel on the end of the leader wire.

On the bike where the grommet is located drill a small hole and connect the snap swivel there.

Now if for what ever reason your side cover should fall off it will just hang there until you can stop and put it back on. Complete removal is a "snap" using the snap swivel. Total cost was under $3.00! I bought all the supplies at a sporting goods store.
